Clear expectations
A calm appointment starts with knowing what the notary can do, what you should prepare, and what happens if an appointment cannot proceed.
A notarization verifies identity, personal appearance, and completion of the requested notarial act. It does not prove that a document’s statements are true, make the document legally valid or enforceable, or guarantee acceptance, filing, or recording by a third party.
The notary cannot draft or select documents, explain their legal effect, choose the required certificate, or advise whether a document meets your legal needs. Ask the document issuer, receiving party, lender, title company, or a licensed attorney.
Provide complete documents, acceptable identification, all required signers and witnesses, and the notarial act requested. Confirm document and witness requirements with the receiving party before the appointment.
When service must stop
The notary may decline or stop when legal or professional requirements are not satisfied, including when:

The notary is responsible for performing authorized notarial duties carefully but is not responsible for document content, errors made by document preparers, or decisions made by receiving parties.
Charges and appointment status
Your written estimate identifies the service or package charge, travel, anticipated Texas-authorized notarial fees, and applicable add-ons before confirmation.
A disclosed travel, printing, waiting-time, cancellation, or no-sign charge may still be due if preparation or travel has begun and the appointment cannot be completed because a signer, acceptable ID, complete documents, or required witnesses are unavailable.
Actual courier, shipping, parking, toll, or other third-party expenses already incurred are not refundable. Notarial fees are charged only for notarial acts actually performed.
Submitting a request does not confirm an appointment or guarantee same-day service. The location, time, estimated price, services, and any witness arrangements must be confirmed by email or text.
Online privacy and technology
An online notarization uses a third-party platform, identity proofing, credential analysis, and live two-way audio-video communication. Texas law requires the online session to be recorded and the electronic notarial record, including the audio-video recording, to be retained for five years. Certain information in notarial records is public information under Texas law.
