What can a Texas notary do in person?
Texas notaries may take acknowledgments, administer oaths and affirmations, take depositions, certify copies of documents not recordable in public records, and protest certain instruments as permitted by law.
Can every document be notarized online?
No. It must be legally eligible, supported by the platform, and acceptable to the receiving party. Wills, codicils, and testamentary trusts cannot be signed electronically and notarized online by videoconference.
Can I use the service while traveling in the United States?
Generally, yes. A signer can meet with the Texas online notary from anywhere in the United States, including while away on business or vacation. The online notary must remain physically located in Texas, and the document must be eligible, supported by the platform, and acceptable to the receiving party.
Can the notary tell me which certificate I need?
Not unless the notary is also an attorney acting in that capacity. Ask the document’s issuer, receiving party, or an attorney.
Is my appointment confirmed when I send a request?
